Pollutant register in countries of Western Balkan and the Republic Moldova
Thru.de knows how it works. More and more information about the environment is becoming freely available.
The show goes on! This includes the new advisory assistant project “Development of pollutant registers in the Western-Balkan region and the Republic Moldova”, with which the German Government does provide technical support for the development of national pollutant registers (PRTR). The project is the follow-up of “Establishment of competences for the implementation of the Aarhus Convention and the development of PRTR systems in selected countries on the Balkan” implemented between 4/2011 and 10/2013 for the countries Macedonia, Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The new project shall help establishing capacities in competent authorities in Albania, Moldova, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo in order to compile emissions data and data on waste generated and to run their own register. Through joint effort project partners will develop guidelines in different languages. PRTR information will be made publicly available via national internet portals. Special assistance is provided to Macedonia and Serbia in order to overcome remaining difficulties they faced with the established reporting systems. In 2016 Macedonia will, for the first time and voluntarily make use of the Open Source Software developed in Germany for reporting of PRTR data to the EU.
Similar to the precursor project, the new project will be carried out by the Regional Environmental Centre, Szentendre/Hungary (www.rec.org), while the technical support is provided by experts from the German Federal Environment Agency. The commencing data was March 2015. The project is to be completed by February 2017.
Results of the first advisory assistant project “Establishment of competences for the implementation of the Aarhus Convention and the development of PRTR systems in selected countries on the Balkan” and guidelines in the countries’ languages with a summary in English are available as,
